Thirty students have been selected to receive a greenhouse technology training at the Agritop Greenhouse Capacity Building Facility Centre in Dawhenya Irrigation Scheme in Accra to better enhance and orient their knowledge and skills in agriculture farming using the greenhouse technology. The greenhouse farming technology training which is the very first of its kind to take place in Ghana is expected to complete its first session in December 15 2016. The second phase is expected to begin on 2 January, 2017 whereas the third phase in 15th May 2017. The Managing Director of Agritop Ltd Ofer Tamir who doubles as a trainer said the students undergo 12hours daily of training of which six hours is apportioned for training on the field and the other in the classroom to achieve a maximum input of training. Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Lumuna the Agriculture Minister on Thursday 24th November, 2016 when he visited the training center was happy about the progress of work at the facility and said the training has come in handy to help solve the unemployment situation the country is going through. In addressing the students at the training school He said mechanization is now the solution for agriculture and that agriculture should not be seen as a tattered and old thing but as a business venture. Alhaji Lumuna shared with students many of government programmes put in place to assist farmers achieve the best from their farming activities. On the issue of agriculture attaining its mark on the gross domestic product, Alhaji said this was due to the fact that agriculture products such as cassava for instance is feeding the service and industry sector respectively when the cassava as a stable commodity is being used as a beer and no longer for its intended use. He advised students to take advantage of the training programme to tell a better story that agriculture has and is always thriving other than the negativity its being associated to.
