WHY IRRIGATION

The spatial distribution of rainfall had varied significantly over the past thirty years.

More than two-thirds of the country is increasingly experiencing unimodal rainfall patterns. This is resulting in widespread single cropping seasons and widespread failure of second crops even in areas noted for bimodal rainfall patterns

When the rain does come (often when least expected) most of it is lost as run off.

Long term agricultural planning without irrigation component cannot lead to sustainability and increased productivity consistent with population growth.

With irrigation, your crop production does not have to depend on the rainfall pattern to ensure National Food Security and Rural Poverty Alleviation.
